‘The most satisfaction’ – Roy Hodgson reacts as Crystal Palace bounce back from EFL Cup defeat with Premier League win over Manchester United

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson expressed his satisfaction with his side’s ability to bounce back from their 3-0 EFL Cup defeat at Manchester United on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win in the Premier League at the Red Devils on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles scored the winner 24th minute when Joachim Andersen met Eberechi Eze’s cross at the back post and fired a stunning first-time shot beyond Andre Onana.

United registered 19 shots during the 90 minutes – forcing a goal-saving block from Marc Guehi in the first minute of stoppage time – but were unable to find an equaliser.

The three points saw Roy Hodgson become the first manager to go unbeaten in five consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford.

“I’m happy about that,” Hodgson said of the record.

“But I’m most happy with the way the team played today and so pleased for the players.

“It wasn’t easy coming here for the second time a few days, but to give that performance, to work that hard and to defend as well as we did throughout the 90 minutes, I’m happy to win the game – that’s what gives me the most satisfaction.

“I’m not even sure I can tell you about the other games before, but I’m pretty certain I would have been pretty delighted after those as well.

“I would have been saying the same sort of things I am saying now.

“All credit to the players as far as I’m concerned. Perhaps an extra mention simply because Tuesday night was such a disappointment.

“We didn’t come here to lose 3-0 – we came here hoping to progress in the EFL Cup – but we were dumped out of that really with the Man United performance on Tuesday.”
