Tooting-born motorcycle racer Gino Rea has signed a deal to ride for the Hawk Racing Buildbase Suzuki Team in the British Superbike Championship this year, writes Giles Spencer.

The 31-year-old rode most of last season for the team after initially stepping in to cover an injured rider and gelled well with the bike, netting some impressive results including leading his first BSB race at Donington Park.

“I’m really excited to sign with Buildbase Suzuki for 2021.” said Rea. “Hawk Racing is one of the most experienced teams in BSB. I’ve had a lot of respect for the team since stepping into the champion-ship, so I’m very thankful to Steve and Stuart for the opportunity to race for them again.

“After joining them last year and seeing the progress we made, which resulted in leading my first BSB race with them, it’s the perfect scenario to continue together and build on our hard work from last season.

“Steve and Stuart are so passionate about their racing which makes it a nice and refreshing environment to be in. I’m looking forward to working hard to build on our results from 2020 and give the team the results they deserve.”

The championship starts May 29-31 at Cheshire’s Oulton Park.
