‘We didn’t do enough in the final third’ – QPR boss on 2-0 defeat at Coventry City

Mick Beale reckoned Coventry’s City first goal gave them “enthusiasm” to go on and claim a 2-0 victory against QPR.

Viktor Gyokeres’ brace sealed all three points for the Sky Blues and leaves the R’s seventh in the Championship.

Beale said: “The first goal gave them [Coventry] enthusiasm. We were a little bit dizzy for 10 or 15 minutes after that, but then we played some really good football.

“We were good between both boxes without doing enough in the final third. That was the difference – Gyokeres was definitely the best player on the pitch.

“This is our blip – but we’re still the seventh-best team in the league going into the break. That shows how well we’ve done so far this season.

“It’s not an excuse, but we’re currently missing five or six players who should be available when we return against Burnley on December 11. We need our best players available all the time and consistency in our starting 11.

“Now it’s time for us to build a stronger QPR going into the second half of the season. We’re developing this young group and, four months into the job, I’m delighted with the attention and effort of the players – I love working with them and going into Heston.

“We knew this season was going to be up and down. The last week has been tough and I’m not sure our performances have warranted the return of points we’ve got. The schedule has probably eaten us up.

“Let’s take stock. If we’d got to where we are currently in a different way, we’d be more positive.
