‘We have to be better in key moments’ – QPR boss not totally satisfied despite win over Preston

Mark Warburton says QPR need to stop conceding sloppy goals after they beat Preston 3-2 on Saturday.

Lyndon Dykes had put the Hoops ahead before Emil Riis Jakobsen levelled the contest, only for Josh Earl to give North End the lead just after the restart.

Goals from Jimmy Dunne and Ilias Chair gave the R’s all three points and move them into the Championship play-off zone.

Warburton said: “For the neutral, it’s been magnificent. But all jokes aside, we’ve got to be better in key areas. We can’t be giving away soft goals, it was a game we were totally in control of. It was a very accomplished first 20-25 minutes.

“We got the goal early, and looked in total control. An individual error has cost us and what was worrying to me was the reaction to the errror.

“Second half, we spoke about coming out and being strong and dominating the football, and we don’t track a runner and find ourselves 2-1 down.

“Against a team who are renowned for being hard to beat, five draws in a row, unbeaten in nine, and they are a tough team to break down, so we have ourselves a mountain to climb.

“It was great that we won, great we moved into the top six, we know we’ve dropped a lot of points along the way, but we have to be better in key moments.”
