‘We were the best team on the pitch’ – Fulham boss Silva on derby victory over Millwall

Marco Silva felt Fulham deserved all three points after they beat Millwall 3-0 last night but admitted that the South London outfit did not make it easy for them.
Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a brace – moving on to 30 goals for the season – before Bobby Decordova-Reid wrapped up the points late on to see the Whites extend their lead at the top of the Championship to eight points.
Millwall had two big opportunities to get back into the game at 2-0 down but they were not taken by Jed Wallace and Benik Afobe.
“We deserved the three points, we were the best team on the pitch definitely,” said Silva. “We knew before the match it would be an emotional match for us. I don’t know if because of that at the beginning of the match we were a little bit nervous in our decisions.

“They didn’t make it so easy, the beginning of the match we did not have that quality. We knew before the match with direct and second balls we must be able to deal with that.

“Every time we switched to the side, we created moments for our full-backs, they were a big part of the moments.

“The first goal we scored was a good example of how to create superiority out wide.

“Second half we started to change positions of some players in certain moments of the game to try and create a little bit more in behind their midfielders. In certain moments we did it.

“After the second goal we dropped our intensity and they had two moments. First one was a long ball that we lost and they had a big chance and Marek [Rodak] made a big save.

“They had two big chances and in those moments we must improve to be more consistent for all 95 minutes.”
