‘Would have been interested’ – Roy Hodgson confirms Palace looked at deadline day deal for West Ham winger
Roy Hodgson confirmed that Crystal Palace chased a deadline day deal for West Ham’s Maxwel Cornet.
The 27-year-old has only featured twice in the Premier League this season for the Hammers, scoring against Sheffield United earlier in January when he made his first start of the season.
Cornet was named on the bench for David Moyes’ side in their 1-1 Premier League draw with Bournemouth on Thursday evening.
Ex-Burnley winger Cornet could have also provided cover for Tyrick Mitchell, having the ability to play at left-back.
The Ivory Coast international joined the east Londoners at the start of the 2022-23 season and has recorded 31 outings to his name.
“I’m very happy with the business,” said Hodgson.
“I would congratulate the club on the business done – it’s been good business.
“We would have been interested when we heard about the possibility of Maxwel Cornet from West Ham – that was something that excited us.
“We would have been more than happy to invite him to join us. I thought for a time that it was going to be a possibility.
“The club certainly pursued it.
“But then West Ham decided that they weren’t prepared to let him go on loan after all.
“Unfortunately that fell through. That’s a pity because I thought he would have been a good addition to our squad.”
