‘You have to wonder’ – Johnnie Jackson on Brentford’s decision to recall AFC Wimbledon loanee

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson has admitted that Brentford’s decision to recall Paris Maghoma came as a shock.

The 21-year-old midfielder had been a mainstay in Jackson’s side throughout the campaign, playing 24 times in all competitions in his first loan spell in senior football.

Former Spurs youngster Maghoma, who was due to spend the season with the Dons, suffered an injury which was set to sideline him for a short period in the build-up to the Stevenage fixture in the middle of December.

When asked whether the Premier League side had given any indication about why they decided to recall Maghoma, Jackson told the South London Press: “No, they didn’t. They have recalled him at the minute under the guise that they will take over his rehab but you have to wonder if he will go back out on loan. Will it be at a higher level? We will just have to wait and see on that one.

“It came as a shock. All the conversations we had been having were really positive.

“They were happy with him here, happy with us, happy with the job we were doing, and happy with his development. He was injured, so it came out blue. It was disappointing.

“When you are having those conversations and that dialogue, you tend not to put too many contingency plans in place because we were not expecting to lose him.”
