Former Millwall loanee Ryan Mason has spoken about his retirement from playing at the age of just 26 – and what made him decide to hang up his boots.
The midfielder had a temporary spell with the Lions at the same time as Harry Kane in the 2011-12 season.
He suffered a fractured skull while plauing for Hull City against Chelsea in 2017.
But a recent CT scan changed his comeback plans.
Mason said: “I can confirm that following specialist medical advice I am having to retire from playing professional football.
“I have worked tirelessly in order to be able to return to the pitch. Unfortunately, having taken expert medical advice I now have no option but to retire due to the risks involved given the nature of my injury.”
