Tom Bradshaw ends barren run but Millwall suffer first Championship loss of the season

Millwall’s unbeaten start to the Championship season was brought to an end after a 2-1 defeat at Swansea City.

The Lions fell behind in the first minute of the second half after Jake Bidwell opened the scoring.

Tom Bradshaw ended his long goal drought to bring the Lions level just five minutes later. Ben Cabango’s goal sealed all three points for Steve Cooper’s men.

Millwall manager Gary Rowett named an unchanged starting 11 from the one that drew 1-1 with Brentford last Saturday.

The Swans had more than 60 per cent possession in the first half but rarely threatened the Millwall goal. Jake Cooper made a brilliant block to deny Jamal Lowe, who was found well by Andre Ayew, in the 44th minute.

Swansea took the lead in the first minute of the second half, Morgan Gibbs-White was given too much time out wide – he picked out Bidwell at the back post and his touch beat Bart Bialkowski.

Millwall responded really well, Jed Wallace went close three minutes later, charging his way forward and driving a shot just wide of the far post.

It was 1-1 on 51 minutes. Hutchinson played in Bradshaw who struck his shot low and hard towards the near post to beat Swansea keeper Steven Benda. It was the striker’s first Championship goal since January 1.

But Swansea went back in front on 68 minutes. Cabango turned the ball in after a goalmouth scramble that had seen Lowe and Bidwell denied by Bialkowski.

Rowett threw on Connor Mahoney and Matt Smith but it was Alex Pearce who struck an effort from 35 yards that forced Benda into a save on 75 minutes.

Millwall had a late penalty claim when Marc Guehi, who had already been booked, appeared to bring down Shaun Hutchinson in the box but the referee waved away the claims.
