Ream: We are in a scrap

Tim Ream is hoping Fulham can put their stuttering Premier League start behind them with victory in Monday’s already crucial fixture at home to West Bromwich Albion.

The US international said the Whites are in a “scrap” at the bottom of the table – having taken just one point from their opening six games – but says a win over fellow promoted side Albion can get their season up and running.

He told Premier League Productions: “It’s only seven games into the season but we all know what’s at stake, as I’m sure they do. It’s a huge game.

“We’re under no illusions how difficult the game’s going to be.

“It’s been a difficult start but we’re working away every day trying to put things right and trying to turn results around, and get points as quickly as we can from here on out.

“I think most teams who get promoted do find it challenging. West Brom have had some decent games, a few decent performances – similar to us – but find themselves down there with us.

“It’s going to be a scrap from here until the end to see who comes out above that (relegation) line.”

Fulham fell to their fifth defeat of the season on Saturday – going down 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace.

Whites boss Scott Parker admitted that Fulham made too many safe passing options in the defeat.

Tom Cairney produced a late strike for the west Londoners with Ademola Lookman hitting both posts in the first half.

Fulham struggled to contain Wilfried Zaha, who provided the assist for Jairo Riedewald’s first career goal.

He then slid in at the back post to convert Michy Batshuayi’s low cross from the right.
