Charlton 3 Fleetwood Town 2 – Addicks up to third in the table as unbeaten run stretches to seven games

Charlton Athletic moved up to third in the League One table as they chalked up their sixth straight victory – their best winning sequence since they won the title at this level in the 2011-12 campaign.

Lee Bowyer’s side are now seven matches unbeaten and are only three points behind leaders Peterborough United and have a fixture in hand.

It looked at one stage as if it was going to be a comfortable evening for the South Londoners as they led 2-0 just after the half-hour mark with Ben Purrington and Conor Washington on target.

But a quickfire double by Fleetwood’s predatory striker Ched Evans had the visitors on level terms three minutes after Washington’s goal.

Charlton moved back ahead in the 50th minute. Albie Morgan played a neat one-two with Washington and was brought down inside the box.

It was left to Washington to convert from the penalty spot – his fifth goal of the season – to settle the contest.

The Addicks could have made the match safe but Jayson Leutwiler came out quickly to block a good chance for Omar Bogle before substitute Chuks Aneke saw an effort come back off the left upright.
