Roy Hodgson assesses home performances by Crystal Palace this season

Roy Hodgson has been happy with Crystal Palace’s attacking performances at Selhurst Park this season – with the only exception being the derby draw with Brighton.

The Eagles kicked off with a 1-0 victory over Southampton before Everton inflicted their first reverse in the 2020-21 campaign at the end of September.

Palace have only played once since in SE25, when Alexis Mac Allister’s 90th-minute goal salvaged a point for the South Coast club.

The Eagles have won just one of their past seven home matches and only scored more than once in one of their 12 top-flight fixtures in 2020 on home turf.

Hodgson said: “We did well against Southampton. We played well against Everton; we were very unlucky, our attacking performance was very good.

“It wasn’t very good against Brighton. That’s the way it is so far.

“I’m very happy with two of them, not so happy with one of them. Unfortunately that Brighton one cost us because we conceded so late in the game.

“But I must add that the goal that was disallowed – which was unbelievably marginal by Michy Batshuayi – would have put us 2-0 up and changed things enormously.

“I’m afraid there is always a risk when you are leading 1-0 and there is not long to go, that you don’t throw as many players forward as you would if you were leading 2-0 and the opposing team were leaving you lots of chances to counter-attack.”
