Greenwich heavyweight Daniel Dubois: It wouldn’t bother me winning a world title at an empty stadium

Daniel Dubois says he would have no qualms about fighting for a world title in an empty stadium – as the Greenwich puncher aims to move a step closer to a shot with an explosive win over Joe Joyce.

The two unbeaten heavyweights meet on November 28.

Dubois is ranked number two by the WBO and could end up fighting Ukranian Oleksandr Usyk for the vacant belt if Anthony Joshua relinquishes it to land a huge domestic showdown with Tyson Fury in 2021.

“If the situation doesn’t improve and it doesn’t look likely there’ll be crowds there I’d definitely take it,” said Dubois. “After this fight, if that’s the next option then we’ll definitely take it.”

Usyk is a former world cruiserweight champion and a seasoned performer as he had a superb amateur record.

But Dubois thinks he is ready for that challenge. He said: “I’d definitely take that on.

“It’s another big challenge and another big exciting fight. He’s a talented boxer with a good boxing brain and good all round movement.”

Dubois believes he can handle whatever tactics Joyce looks to employ.

“Whatever he does I’ve got an answer for it. If he tries to move in and fight me that’ll be better for me, that’s what I want, but if he tries to box I can do that too. I’m not worried about what he’ll try and do.”
