Scott Parker: My Fulham side were flat against Brighton – the Liverpool game sapped us

Scott Parker felt his Fulham side were feeling the after-effects of their sterling display against Liverpool as they drew 0-0 with Brighton on Wednesday night.

It ended a run of 196 consecutive home league games with at least one goal scored – dating back to August 2011.

The west Londoners were unlucky to only take a point against the Premier League champions at Craven Cottage.

Parker said: “It was a big effort on Sunday and we looked a little bit flat, which can happen.

“It was a huge effort from the players on Sunday and I only made one change. In saying that we had a couple of big chances as well.”

Adam Webster’s header crashed down off the underside of the bar as Albion turned up the heat after the restart with Adam Lallana also seeing a goal disallowed for a handball by Danny Welbeck.

Parker said: “For the first 15 to 20 minutes of the second half we really came under siege but we withstood that, which was very pleasing.

“We all understand we’re going to have to play a little bit better to win football matches in this league but we stayed in the game – at times we’ve not been able to do that and have given ourselves a mountain to climb.

“We’ll regroup.There are loads of big games coming up and we’ll go again at Newcastle.

“We know the high demands at this time of the year and our squad is nowhere near as big as some others. We’ll have to manage that, for sure, and it’s something I’ll have to look at.

“But we’ve been positive from day one. People wrote us off but the way we’re moving…I like us a lot at the moment.”

Sky Sports will screen the Whites’ trip to Burnley (January 3, noon) and the west London derby against Chelsea (January 15, 8pm) at the Cottage.
