Millwall have bid accepted for Derby County’s George Evans
Millwall have had a bid accepted for Derby County’s George Evans.
The Lions will now open negotiations with the 26-year-old, who can play in central midfield and also the backline.
Derby County manager Wayne Rooney confirmed after their match today that an offer had been accepted for Evans.
He said: “There has now been an offer, and it’s up to George to make a decision. I’ve told George I can’t guarantee him game time and won’t stand in his way.”
Millwall are keen to bolster their centre-back options with Ryan Leonard filling in on the right of the back three for their last three Championship matches.
And it became a priority with Murray Wallace ruled out for a number of weeks with a broken foot.
Evans has made eight appearances for the Rams this season – six of those in the Championship. He has only featured twice since the end of November. A hamstring injury saw him ruled out in the early stages of the campaign.
Millwall had also bid previously for Hibernian centre-back Ryan Porteous. But it now looks like Evans will be the reinforcement coming in that area.
It had been reported previously that the Lions had a £500,000 offer turned down for Evans. A delayed takeover has also added extra financial strain at the Pride Park outfit, with December wages paid late.
