Charlton boss yet to make call on ‘wildcard’ signing being involved at Rochdale
Lee Bowyer is not guaranteeing that new signing Diallang Jaiyesimi will definitely come into his Charlton squad for Saturday’s match at Rochdale.
The 22-year-old winger was snapped up from Swindon Town on Monday night as the Addicks triggered a release clause in his contract with a six-figure bid.
Jaiyesimi’s move did not go through in time for him to be eligible for Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Portsmouth.
And Bowyer was making no promises that the former Norwich City man, who came through the youth ranks at Dulwich Hamlet, will be involved at the weekend.
He said: “We’ll have a look at him Thursday and see how he is. It’s difficult – he’ll only have Thursday and Friday training. Sometimes it’s a bit harsh to say ‘go on – now go and play’. He doesn’t know the players apart from Deji, he’s his friend.
“He doesn’t know the players and how they play. There are still a lot of games to go, a lot of games to play.
“He’s bit of a wildcard. He’s unpredictable – every team needs one of them. He reminds me a bit of Leko. You just never know what he’s going to do next – and that’s a good thing at times.
“He’ll bring us something we haven’t got. He’s young, he’s an asset for the club. He’s a project. Is he the finished article? No he is not. But it’s a good base to work with and technically he is very good. He’s going to bring us something we don’t have at the moment.”
