Charlton turn Andrew Shinnie’s deal into permanent – to free up space to use all their loanees at Fleetwood Town
Charlton Athletic have turned Andrew Shinnie’s deal into a permanent one – freeing them up to use all their remaining loan signings at Fleetwood Town tomorrow.
Shinnie is still due to be a free agent at the end of this season but has changed the status of his contract which means his Luton Town career is over.
The Addicks had six loanees on their books and EFL rules state only five can be used on a matchday.
That would have meant that one would have to miss out. Akin Famewo, who arrived on a temporary deal from Norwich at the start of the campaign, is now recovered from an ankle injury and expected to be on the bench for this weekend’s League One clash.
Shinnie, 31, has made 16 league appearances for Charlton and netted twice.
Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said: “We’d like to thank Luton Town and Andrew for working with us to get this deal done. It gives us greater flexibility as we prepare for our final 18 league games of the season.”
