Millwall 0 Wycombe 0 – Lions make it eight unbeaten in Championship but fail to spark in attacking areas

Millwall extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to eight matches in a desperately scrappy contest at The Den.

The Lions were also bidding for four league victories in a row for the first time since March 2018 but it felt like both sides could have been out there until 10pm tonight without the deadlock being broken.

A point is of little use to Wycombe, who are 11 points from safety.

Millwall picked up their 15th draw of the campaign and struggled to get their attacking play going.

The first half was poor fare with both sides battling unsuccessfully to control the ball in the final third. Millwall had more possession but could not translate that into many clearcut chances.

They made just one notable opportunity in that first period with David Stockdale parrying Mahlon Romeo’s low drive. And the keeper also looked to get the touch to deny Jed Wallace on the follow up, only for the assistant referee’s flag to be up for offside.

Ben Thompson did put another effort wide of the right upright when Jed Wallace’s free-kick was only partially cleared.

The Lions were guilty of underhit passes or poor control all afternoon. Their task was made more difficult by Wanderers being happy not to overcommit, ensuring they always had numbers back to deal with attacks.

Stockdale was forced into a fine stop in the 49th minute as Mason Bennett found Scott Malone on the left of the box and his strike was pushed away for a corner.

But that sign of promise was followed by the home side continuing to labour and lack ideas on how to break down the Chairboys.

Former Millwall winger Fred Onyedinma had a penalty claim ignored after he appeared to be held by Alex Pearce.
