Fulham boss confident momentum is with his team after 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace

Scott Parker feels that “momentum” is with his Fulham side after today’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

The west London club are three points adrift of safety after the stalemate in SE25.

Fulham created the better chances in the second period at Selhurst Park after an incident-free opening 45 minutes.

Parker’s side are unbeaten in five Premier League matches but have a tough sequence ahead – Liverpool away sandwiched between home fixtures against Tottenham and Manchester City.

The Fulham manager said: “Momentum is firmly with us. I don’t know what the numbers are in the last 16, 17 games but we’ve probably lost three games. Every game in this division is tough.

“I think we’ve shown over a longer period of games that we can compete with any team in this division. I’m hoping that’s not going to be any different in the fixtures coming up.

“I knew the game would probably be decided on one goal. When we had that ascedency about us and those moments where we had them on the ropes, one of them needed to go in.

“I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating chances – that we were looking to score the odd goal from a set-piece or a counter attack. This is a team that is front foot, aggressive and wants to win games. Can we be more clinical and take those moments? That’s what we’re working on.

“You saw a team who came here to try and win the game. On the scale of the opportunities we created, we fully deserved to win the game. We fell a little bit short.

“We were playing against a well-organised Crystal Palace team, who sit off play a lot. You’ve got to jab and probe a lot. We didn’t do that well enough first half. We changed it positionally second half and created enough chances – some big ones as well – to win the game.

“It was a stubborn team we were up against. We committed more bodies forward and positionally put people in positions where we felt we could hurt them, after looking at the first half.

“It’s not meant to be. But it’s a clean sheet. Defensively we looked very, very good – I don’t think we conceded a shot on goal. The law of averages says that if you play that game 10 times then you win more than you lose or draw.

“It’s a big point for us and we keep moving on.

“I see points coming from the next game. I believe in this team. The team believe as well. I believe we can cause them problems in Thursday’s game. I understand the challenges – that’s the Premier League.

“We’ve not managed at certain times to really kill teams off. But this is a young team – a lot of these players are in the Premier League for the first time. What I want is a real honesty and that we keep trying to get better.”
