Millwall winger has watched less football this season – with his dog the big winner in lockdown

Jed Wallace has cut down on his football viewing during the Covid-19 pandemic, and reckons the only big winner from lockdown has been his dog Archer.

The Millwall attacker says that the congested fixture schedule gives him less opportunity to catch other matches.

He said: “This season I’ve tried to watch a little bit less, just because we’ve had so many games ourselves.

“We’ve had a game every three days, so when I’ve been at home I’ve tried to switch off a little bit and spend time with my two little children and my missus.
“I don’t think she’d thank me if I’m out the house twice a week playing games and then I’m sat at home on a Thursday night watching it. I don’t think she’d be best pleased.

“And there are no distractions. It’s not like you can go out for dinner, take the kids to soft play or go swimming. There is no distraction from football. I’ve tried to stay away from it when I’m not actually there. Just for my own sanity. I think it’s the same for most of the lads.

“Even watching it, it’s not the same. When you score that goal you want the euphoria of the stadium – you don’t want to become a professional footballer just to get a round of applause from 20 people.

“Even a Sunday, my typical one would be take the kids up David Lloyd to go swimming for half an hour, get in the pool and get yourself moving. You can’t do that.

“I’ve been walking my dog non stop with my kids and the missus. The dog is happy, because there are always people at home and he gets walked twice a day. I think he is delighted we’re in lockdown. He’ll be in for a shock when we come out of it.

“But I understand there are people in a lot worse position than me, I still get to go to football and work. I’ve not taken that for granted. But I’m still really looking forward to the summer, things opening back up and fans potentially coming back in. It fills me with excitement.”
