Millwall 0 Swansea 3 – Lions unbeaten run ended as former transfer target Lowe strikes twice

Millwall’s unbeaten run in the Championship came to a crunching halt as they lost 3-0 at home to Swansea City – with Jamal Lowe on target twice.

The Lions knew their play-off chances were still firmly stacked against them despite heading into the Den contest on a three-game winning streak.

But the visitors, who had lost their last four matches without scoring, took the lead right at the end of the first half. Scott Malone’s attempts to get back into a defensive position allowed Andre Ayew the time and space to shift on to his stronger left foot and curl beyond Bartosz Bialkowski.

It was the Ghana attacker’s 15th goal of the campaign.

Jake Cooper’s header came back off the base of the post from a Malone cross early in the second half but that was to be as good as it got for Gary Rowett’s side, aside from Freddie Woodman diving to his left to push away a fierce effort from substitute Kenneth Zohore.

Swansea had won 18 and drawn one of the last 20 fixtures they had taken the lead in before today and Lowe, a transfer target for Millwall both when he left Portsmouth and Wigan, rammed in a 76th-minute strike. It was his first goal in 18 matches.

Millwall conceded a third in the 88th minute. Ayew whipped in a low cross from the left of the box and Lowe took a touch before arrowing a finish beyond a helpless Bialkowski.
