“Phenomenal” – Nigel Adkins has praise for one Charlton player after 3-1 win over Lincoln
Charlton manager Nigel Adkins was full of admiration for Jayden Stockley’s workrate in Tuesday night’s 3-1 win over Lincoln City.
The on-loan Preston striker lashed home the opening goal to move his tally to eight since he arrived in the January window.
Adkins said: “Jayden Stockley was magnificent yet again. He works his socks off. In the last minute of the game he is down near our corner flag, winning the ball.
“He just kept going – phenomenal. He is such a massive threat. If we can just improve the quality to him, he is such a handful in this division.”
Charlton’s seventh home league win of the season was not enough to move them up from eighth spot but it puts them within striking distance of sixth-placed Portsmouth heading into Sunday’s final round of matches.
The Addicks finish with Hull City in SE7. The Tigers are already confirmed as champions.

Adkins said: “The object tonight [Tuesday] was ‘can we win the game?’ We know the goal difference is against us. The other teams, if they win their games, we can’t do anything about that. But what can we control? Win a game of football against the best away team in the league, a team in the play-offs and a very talented football side.
“We’ve won the game, scored a couple more goals and put a performance in. We’ve taken the season to the last game now. And, as everyone knows, anything can happen.
“We’re going to entertain the champions now, Hull City. Great credit to them. I presume they are going to get the trophy. Grant McCann and Cliff Byrne are two ex-players of mine at Scunthorpe United, where we got promoted from this league.
“It’s fantastic they have gone and won the league. But likewise we need to win the game on Sunday.”
