Bartosz Bialkowski: I’d be happy to sign a new Millwall deal

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Bart Bialkowski would be happy to extend his contract at Millwall.

The Poland goalkeeper, who turns 34 in July, has won successive Player of the Season awards since joining the Lions from Ipswich.

Millwall are in the market for a shotstopper this summer after releasing Frank Fielding.

Bialkowski still has more than 12 months to run on his current deal.

“If I’m going to perform up to my standards and the club are happy with me then they will probably offer me a new contract in the next few months or so,” he told the South London Press.

“I’m happy here. I’m playing well and training well. I’m enjoying playing and training, I’m quite relaxed about this kind of thing but you do want to know your future.

“But I think it is too early to talk about that.

“I’m 34 in July but I’m healthy and fit. I want to play as long as I can – that’s not going to be an issue.

“If the club decided to offer me a contract then I’d be happy to sign it.”

Fielding had provided back-up to Bialkowski.

The Blackburn man started the opening match of the 2019-20 season but tore his quad in the 43rd minute of a 1-0 win over Preston. It proved to be his only Championship appearance for the Lions.

Bialkowski has clocked up 97 games since arriving at Millwall and was an ever-present in the league in the last campaign.

He won the Championship Golden Glove award in July.

Only Swansea’s Freddie Woodman (20) kept more clean sheets than Bialkowski (17) in the 2020-21 season.
