‘The Headmaster’ has plans to be a teacher – Charlton’s Jayden Stockley on his nickname
Charlton frontman Jayden Stockley is keen on a teaching career after football.
The powerful striker has been nicknamed ‘The Headteacher’ due to his aerial prowess for the Addicks.
“I scored seven headers in a row…I’ve not really done that before,” Stockley said. “It was the quality of the delivery, really.
“I love scoring headers and absolutely love heading the ball. But I also love finishes like the Lincoln one. I’ve scored the best goals of my career with my feet. It’s just the way our play was going at the time, there wasn’t those balls across the box to slide or tap home with your feet.
“I won’t complain scoring that many headers. I’m a big lad and I love attacking the ball. Any way I can get a goal, I will.”
Stockley had to get permission from his school to play for Bournemouth’s first-team at the age of 15.
He said: “Teaching is something I want to look at doing when I finish football.
“I was cheeky and opinionated [at school] but I had a good relationship with the teachers. I was quite a smart kid as well.
“I had to pretty much focus on football from 15 onwards and just do English and PE in terms of my GCSEs – because I went into the Bournemouth first team at that age.
“I’ve got a lot of friends who are teachers. It’s a profession that is great.”
