Charlton Athletic v Wigan team line-ups: Charlie Kirk makes first start for Addicks – boost as Washington on bench
Charlie Kirk starts for Charlton Athletic in today’s home game against Wigan Athletic – one of two changes made by manager Nigel Adkins.
The Addicks are winless after three League One matches – the last time they went four without a victory was 25 years ago in the 1996-97 season.
Kirk starts in place of Conor Washington, who came off with a back injury in Tuesday’s 2-1 reverse at Milton Keynes. The Northern Ireland international is fit enough to be named as a substitute.
The other switch sees Ben Watson replace Sean Clare in central midfield. Former Tranmere winger Corey Taylor-Blackett, signed yesterday, is on the bench.
Midfielder Alex Gilbey is still unavailable as he recovers from Covid-19 and Ben Purrington (ankle) is not expected to resume full training until next week.
Charlton have made their joint worst start to a season in the third tier of English football in 93 years.
Wigan have won one of their last eight matches in SE7 – drawing two and losing five. Ben Amos and Jordan Cousins – both formerly on Charlton’s books – head back to South London.
