Where Millwall loan signing and Liverpool star Ojo could fit in at The Den

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has revealed what he hopes for from Sheyi Ojo – with the loanee in line to make his Lions bow against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

Ojo arrived in the final hours of the transfer window on loan from Liverpool and has trained with the squad this week ahead of the return to league action.

His temporary switch to SE16 is the seventh loan move that the 23-year-old has made from Anfield.

He racked up five goals and seven assists at Cardiff City last season, linking up briefly with former Millwall boss Neil Harris.

And Rowett shared his vision of how and where Ojo is likely to fit in as well as how the move came about after being quizzed on the winger’s arrival.

“We’ve predominantly played 5-2-3 for the time I’ve been here,” said Rowett.

“We’ve played 4-2-3-1 in quite a lot of our home games, certainly early on.

“This season we’ve looked at 5-3-2 to see if we can improve in certain areas. If you’re not winning games, you’re always looking to get on the front foot a little bit and perhaps to get another body in.

“I think it was always a case of ‘what type of player could we get’? At Millwall we’re not able to be ultra-specific and say ‘that’s the type of player I want and no matter what the cost we’ll get them’.

“It’s a case of ‘can we get a player we think can change games’ and Sheyi was one available that we really, really liked.

“Naturally, he’s going to fit into a flexible front three I’d think predominantly.

“I’d imagine there’s also going to be times where he’ll play in the other two systems as well.”
