Millwall boss Gary Rowett on likely return date for winger Tyler Burey

Gary Rowett has described it as “a bonus” if Millwall winger Tyler Burey is back fit before Christmas. The 20-year-old was impressing on loan at Hartlepool United before a serious hamstring injury ruled him out at the start of September.

Burey is due to resume his stint with the League Two club once he is given the green light by the Lions’ medical staff.

But Rowett has made it clear that is not set to be any time soon.

“Tyler is rehabbing,” said the Millwall manager. “Originally that was going to be around 12 weeks. It was quite a serious hamstring tear. Initially we thought he may need surgery but what they do is leave it for a couple of weeks and if it is repairing quite nicely then they leave it.

“I think now we’re four or five weeks into that. I would imagine if he comes back before Christmas it’s a bonus. He is doing quite well and has been out on the grass working but, like any hamstring injury, you can work quite comfortably – it’s not until you get up to sprint speed that you start to really stress the muscle.

“He still has quite a way to go.”
