Palace boss Patrick Vieira compares Conor Gallagher to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard
Conor Gallagher’s finishing ability has been likened to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
The comparison has been made by Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, when asked in his press conference previewing tomorrow’s home game against Southampton, who the on-loan Blues midfielder reminded him of from his own elite playing days.
Gallagher scored twice in the Eagles’ 3-1 victory over Everton on Sunday afternoon to take his tally to six for the campaign. His assured performances for the South Londoners have seen the Epsom-born player win his first cap at full England level.
Only two British players – Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Chelsea’s Mason Mount (both 10) – have more goal involvements than Gallagher (nine).
“He has the passion for the game when he is on the field of like a Ray Parlour,” said Vieira. “But he has maybe that quality finish of a Frank Lampard.
“It is his determination to progress every time he is putting his feet on the field. He wants to improve and challenge himself. We know his quality – he can do the box-to-box, he can score goals – but what is really impressive with him is his work ethic in training every day. When you have that kind of determination to challenge yourself and improve, you will have more chance to succeed.”
