Millwall new boy: It will be nice not to be on receiving end of abuse at The Den this season

Murray Wallace is looking forward to once again experiencing the atmosphere at The Den – but this time as a home player.

The Scottish centre-back became Millwall’s first signing of the summer when he completed his switch from Scunthorpe United last week.

Wallace can also play at left-back and boosts the defensive options for Lions chief Neil Harris.

Byron Webster is expected to pen a new deal soon – taking the number of central defenders on the books to five although one of those, Sid Nelson, will be loaned out for the first half of the 2018-19 campaign.

Wallace has played for Scunthorpe against Millwall and featured in both play-off legs when the clubs collided in the play-offs in 2017, with the South London club going on to win promotion at Wembley.

“I always remember coming to The Den – you expect plenty of abuse,” said Wallace. “But it will be nice to be on the other side this time.

“I think it can affect some players but you have got to deal with the atmosphere. At most places it is going to be hostile – but maybe this is the most hostile!

“It can get into some players’ heads and affect them.”
