Dillian Whyte to earn £6m from world heavyweight title challenge against Tyson Fury

Queensberry Promotions have won the purse bid to stage Tyson Fury’s WBC world heavyweight title defence against Brixton’s Dillian Whyte.

Whyte is set to earn £6million from the clash with Fury banking £25m.

Frank Warren, who owns Queensberry Promotions, outbid Matchroom Boxing, who have been the long-term promoters of the South London fighter.

The purse bid was held at the WBC’s headquarters in Mexico City.

“Queensberry and Top Rank are delighted that WBC and lineal world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will defend his titles against Dillian Whyte following today’s purse bids,” said Warren.

“A venue and date for the fight will be announced in due course.”

The purse bid had been delayed due to negotiations over Anthony Joshua dropping out of his contracted rematch with unified  champion Oleksandr Usyk.

If a deal had reached then Fury would have met Uysk in a bout to decide the undisputed champion.

There had been claims that Joshua would received £15m in compensation if he agreed to step aside.

Whyte had been due to box at the end of October but withdrew citing a shoulder injury.
