‘We take the easy option’ – Millwall boss on Luton Town’s late leveller in 2-2 draw

Gary Rowett was left ruing the way Millwall dealt with a late Luton Town free-kick as it ended up costing his side victory at Kenilworth Road.

Tom Bradshaw and Benik Afobe scored their 100th career goals as the Lions twice led in Bedfordshire.

But the Hatters ensured a share of the spoils when Robert Snodgrass’s free-kick was deflected into his own goal by Jake Cooper with Cameron Jerome appearing to get first contact inside the area.

Rowett said: “It’s a good delivery but when you watch it back and watch our defensive line, we take the easy option to drop a little bit too deep too soon. And at that point, one header can score. We work hard to get the opposition into areas where with one header it is almost impossible to score.

“But it is great quality and that’s what Snodgrass brings you in those late stages.

“We’ve got the players in there to deal with it.

“We’ve got to be better in that position to win the first header. Against Stoke we conceded two set-pieces and today we concede one. We’ve had a lot of plaudits for the way we’ve won games, adding set-pieces to our game. What we’ve got to do is make sure the other side of the game doesn’t catch us out.

“Disappointing but sometimes you can take all the credit away from the opposition by looking at every detail you didn’t do well. Sometimes you have to see that the opposition fought until the end and maybe over the balance of the 90 minutes deserved something out of the game.”
