Flexibility of Millwall player could see him back in the squad for Swansea City match

Ryan Leonard could be back on the bench for Millwall’s home fixture against Swansea City tomorrow night – with his ability to play a number of different roles a major plus.

The 29-year-old has been restricted to just 16 appearances this season with an ankle ruling him out since November 20.

But Leonard played the full 90 minutes for the U23s on Friday against Peterborough United.

“Lenny is a good athlete – he trained last week and looked good,” said Rowett. “We just felt the U23s gave him a chance to at least play 90 minutes and after that it’s game on.

“What Lenny gives you is that extra flexibility. He can play centre-back, he can play wing-back and he can play midfield – he offers you a slightly different midfielder to what we’ve got and a slightly different centre-back to what we’ve got.

“You need as much flexibility on the bench as you can. Evo [George Evans] is the same, he can play three or four positions and sometimes what you might start the game with might be completely different to what you want the bench to look like because you want to cover all kinds of results and situations in games.”
