Is there an ideal outcome from Bournemouth v Forest for Millwall? Gary Rowett has his say

Gary Rowett is not rooting for one particular outcome as AFC Bournemouth – Millwall’s opponents on the final day – host Championship form team Forest tonight.

If the Cherries were to lose this evening’s fixture they would drop to third in the standings.

But a victory for Scott Parker’s side would seal the second automatic promotion spot. That would leave Bournemouth with nothing to play for on the final day, as Fulham wrapped up the title with a 7-0 drubbing of Luton last night.

Millwall can still catch Luton and Sheffield United but are reliant on results going their way as well as taking maximum points on the south coast.

Asked about the Bournemouth-Luton match and the most favourable outcome, Rowett said: “I don’t really put a best-case scenario on that one because it is not a statistical best-case scenario, is it? We’re not fighting with Bournemouth although the result does depend what they are fighting for on the last day.

“I don’t really think it matters. If I could guarantee Bournemouth got promotion and partied for five days then I’d probably choose that option. But I’m pretty sure they will be professional, regardless of what happens, for their last home game of the season.

“I’ll watch the game more with interest. It is two top teams in our division going head to head and we’ll see how each one handles that situation.

“I won’t really be watching that as anything else as a neutral bystander. I didn’t watch the Fulham game thinking about any outcome. I just watched it to see what happens. We can’t control it. There is nothing within our reach.

“It doesn’t change what we have to do. All it does is change how many goals we might have to score in that process. We’ve still got to win the last game, whatever. We’ll still be waiting on other results as well.”
