‘The squad needs help’ – Cardiff caretaker pleads for transfer reinforcements after Millwall defeat

BY ALEX GRACE

Cardiff caretaker manager Dean Whitehead admitted that the squad needed help from the January transfer market after their 1-0 defeat to Millwall at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Cedric Kipre’s delay on the ball allowed Jake Cooper to send Tom Bradshaw through on goal, with the Welsh international scoring his 7th goal of the season.

The Bluebirds are 21st in the Championship table and have now gone 11 games without a win in all competitions.

“It’s probably a game that typifies our season,” said Whitehead, who took charge of the side after Cardiff sacked ex-Crystal Palace and Charlton defender Mark Hudson last weekend.

“We have a lot of good play. We get in good areas and the final pass, the final cross, the final finish, has just not been there. Ced has been colossal for us all season. He has a lapse in concentration, that final piece of concentration, and it’s let us down today.

“It’s changed the game. Millwall can then sit behind the ball and counter-attack. It’s difficult to take.

“Confidence comes with winning games. We are not doing that, and that’s our job to change it.

“We got into good areas. I don’t know how many attempts on goal we had, but we had plenty of crosses going into the box.

“The squad needs help. We need help – we need players in. We need to freshen up the building and freshen up the squad.”
