Millwall’s January transfer addition sees injury disrupt his settling in process

Millwall’s January signing Aidomo Emakhu has seen his bedding in process at the Championship club slowed a touch by picking up an injury.

The Lions snapped up the 19-year-old striker from Shamrock Rovers in the January transfer window.

Emakhu actually started training with Millwall before the move became officially ratified at the start of 2023.

Lions manager Gary Rowett – asked about how the youngster has bedded in – told the South London Press: “It’s been a difficult one for Aidomo because he came in, did really well for a couple of weeks. It was just a case of seeing how he adapts to Championship training and let’s see how he adapts to Championship football – there might be an opportunity, at some point, for that to push him into first-team reckoning.

“He got injured and he’s been injured since.

“For Aidomo he has now got an opportunity to get a feel for the players and a feel for the club. Watch from afar, do some work to improve his strengths and his ability to cope with the Championship. Then, we’ll see. He is a good young player. A bit like Romain [Esse], that it’s hard to put your finger on when, and if, they are going to impact first-team football.

“But what we do know is, they are very good young players. That is the different side of what we’re trying to do. We’re also trying to produce our own strikers and players who can score goals. That’s a different side to the first-team but something that could blend in quite nicely if they advance quickly.”
