‘They will look to dominate the ball’ – Millwall boss gives verdict on Blackburn’s approach for titanic Den tussle
Millwall manager Gary Rowett is expecting Blackburn Rovers to come and aim to “dominate” possession in Monday’s pivotal Championship clash.
The Lions know a win on the final day of the regulation campaign will confirm their place in the play-offs.
Blackburn have to take maximum points to stand any chance extending their own season and then rely on other results also going in their favour.
Rovers kept alive their hopes with a 1-1 draw against Luton, already assured of third spot in the table, on Monday.
Rowett told the South London Press: “They are a good side that has been up there a long time this season. They are the sort of side that is very possession-based, they make a lot of passes in the build up.
“My perception of them, or view, is that they will come and try to dominate the ball. They will try and move us around, they’ve done that to a lot of teams and did that to Luton in the first half.
“They have got good forward players and ones that potentially could be back from injury to give them a little bit more finishing product in the final third, the likes of Sam Gallagher and Bradley Dack.
“It’s going to be a good game against a tough team. We’ll always be respectful but ultimately both teams need to win. Technically we don’t need to win but our mentality is that we have to go out and win the game, not rely on other results. In order to do that we’re going to have to perform really, really well at The Den. But we predominantly have done that this season against the bigger teams up there.
“We need to do it one more time.”
