Steve Bruce: I was bamboozled referee didn’t change our strip – it was a clear clash with Millwall

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Steve Bruce admitted to being puzzled at Sheffield Wednesday not being asked to play in their away kit in tonight’s 0-0 draw at Millwall.

Referee Tim Robinson ruled that the Owls should wear their home strip – even though their blue tops and blue socks were only a different shade to the home side’s colours.

Bruce admitted the first 45 minutes lacked quality. He said: “I think that is an understatement. It left a lot to be desired, we should just erase that.

“Both teams had a colour clash with the strips  and forgot how to pass to each other.

“In the second half I thought we were better and arguably had the better chances.

“It was difficult but you expect it to be more than difficult when you come here. You have to be brave and take the ball. We were better when we made the switch [George Boyd on at the start of the second half in place of Joey Pelupessy]. We might have nicked it at the end with Fletcher’s chance right at the end.”

Asked about the colour clash, Bruce added: “We had a yellow strip. We were bamboozled when the ref chose the blue and white. I thought they played in dark blue.

“You should get the ref up here and question him. It was certainly a strange decision.”
