Millwall boss gives verdict as George Evans makes Wrexham move
Millwall midfielder George Evans has joined League Two big-spenders Wrexham.
The Lions have freed up space on their wagebill with the exit of the former Manchester City youngster and also Andreas Voglsammer, who had his contract terminated by mutual consent before joining Hannover 96.
Millwall have also come to an agreement with Evans, 28, to terminate his deal which would have expired at the end of June.
Evans has signed a two-year contract with the Welsh club, who won promotion from the National League last season.
“I don’t mean this disrespectfully to Wrexham but George is a player who can play a lot higher than League Two,” Rowett told the South London Press. “He needs to go and play regular games and he will get there with Wrexham or without Wrexham.
“He is a great lad who conducted himself brilliantly over a period of time. He has not had the game time that he would have wanted and it’s difficult to keep doing that – to keep sitting on the bench and not coming on but yet you are doing all the right things in the week.
“Sometimes you have to be fair to players and honest with players. Evo was one that just needs a new start to get his spark back, for his own sake. He’ll do really, really well there.
“He’s a Manchester-based player that it will suit him geographically but also the Wrexham project will also be exciting.”
