Charlton head coach Appleton: I’ve got a track record of landing great loan signings
Michael Appleton has talked about his ability to secure “great loans” when asked about Charlton Athletic’s plans for the winter transfer window.
The new Addicks head coach is settling into his role after being appointed on Friday.
Appleton mentioned his track record of securing players who are “better than the level”.
“One window shuts and the reality is that there’s always an opportunity two or three months later to try and do something to add to the squad,” said Appleton. “One of the things I’ve done reasonably well over the years and had a lot of success with is the loan system. Finding and being able to bring loan players in that are better than the level.
“Someone said to me a few weeks ago about bringing good loans and for me it is about bringing great loans in. Good loans will win the odd game and do quite well, still be part of the squad, but great loans are matchwinners.
“We might have three or four of those so-called matchwinners right in front of us that are our own players. I’m going to find that out in the coming weeks and months. I hope that’s the case.”
