Millwall head coach Joe Edwards asked for his verdict on January transfer window activity
Joe Edwards has described himself as “happy” with Millwall’s January transfer window activity.
The Lions made one permanent signing in the month, paying around £300,000 for Morecambe winger Adam Mayor earlier this week.
And the Championship side also did loans for Burnley striker Michael Obafemi and Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga.
Asked for his assessment of the business done by Millwall, head coach Edwards said: “I’m happy with it. I knew that it was going to be a tricky window, a messy window for any team – but particularly when you are not a team that kind of throws money around willy-nilly. It is definitely not an easy market and we were never going to be that – start throwing unreasonable amounts of money at small problems.
“If one or two more had been there then I’d have been open to adding one or two more but I’m not in a position where the window has closed and I’m left light in our squad.
“If you look at our squad in recent weeks there have been some injuries and players coming back in the next two or three weeks. By the time you add Japh, Michael and Adam to our squad as new additions but then you get back Tom Bradshaw, Aidomo Emakhu, Ryan Leonard and Shaun Hutchinson then the squad, in terms of size, is good to go again.
“There are people even in the likes of Hutch and Aidomo that when they both hit good form in that Christmas period – as a team we hit good form as well in terms of results – they also hit good form without playing or having much opportunity under me.
“There are still players in this squad that I’m keen to see more of and get better out of.”
