Millwall have an option to extend Billy Mitchell’s contract until the summer of 2026.
The 23-year-old’s current terms are due to expire at the end of June.
But the South London Press understands that the Lions are able to activate an extra 12 months.
Mitchell, whose younger brother Zach is on the books of Charlton Athletic, has come through the youth ranks at Millwall and made 161 appearances at first-team level.
A thigh injury suffered in pre-season saw the all-action midfielder ruled out until early December.
Mitchell has started six of the Lions’ last seven Championship matches, including their 1-0 victory over Stoke City last weekend.
The Den outfit have a number of players who are in the final few months of their contracts.
We exclusively broke the news that Ryan Leonard had triggered a one-year extension after starting 25 matches in the current campaign.
George Saville, a rival to Mitchell for a central midfield spot, is out of contract from July 1 along with other senior pros in Duncan Watmore, George Honeyman, Joe Bryan and Wes Harding.
