Hercules Wimbledon AC round-up: Three county champions crowned at Surrey Track & Field Championships

Three Hercules Wimbledon became county champions at the Surrey County Track & Field Championships in Kingston, writes George Mallett.

Maia Heward-Mills took county gold in the U17 women’s 100m (11.69) to edge out Shivelle Marshall of Croydon Harriers.

Freia Harper-Tee earned her own county title in a nail-biting conclusion to the U15 girls 1,500m. She finished 0.24seconds clear after almost five minutes of racing, running 4:48.70 for a PB by four seconds. James Fraser took silver in the U15 boys equivalent, running 4:28.93.  Max Harrison was fifth in the same race (4:32.91).

Daniel Fitzsimmons continued the 1,500m success, running 4:50.25 to take U13 boys silver. Thomas Smith was fourth in 4:58.77. Rachel Wiseman was fourth in the girls equivalent running 5:02.90.

A third county honours was earned by U15 boy Tommaso Crosara who ran 36.23 to take the 300m title. Pablo Carreido was just outside the medals in fourth (37.92).

One of the first medals of the weekend was taken by Mabel-Rose Scales in the high jump, her 1.70m clearance good enough for silver in the U20 women’s section.

Angel Gutierrez-Bailey ran 26.75 in the U13 200m, finishing a close second. Kyra Stone matched his position in the senior women’s, running 25.69 despite being one of the youngest in the field. Adam Ofeimun continued the silver streak in the event in the U20 men’s (21.60).

Over the same distance U17 James O’Flynn was just four hundredths of a second short of bronze with a wind-assisted time of 22.85. He returned one day later to take bronze in the 100m (10.96).

Matthew Wehrle finished third in the U20m men’s 400my. Only 0.06 separated the entire podium with Wehrle running a massive PB of almost a second, despite being the youngest athlete in the field.

Freya Mcandie, competing in the U15 girls 300m took an impressive bronze in 42.74, a new PB.

Lara Delport was third in the U20 women’s 800m (2:26.23) to finish almost eight seconds clear of fourth.

Rafael Garcia Davis was second in the U13 boys (2:21.41). Alex Hughes was fifth in the U15 boys running 2:08.70. In the U20 men’s Pancho Panchev matched positions with Hughes with a PB of 2:00.30.

Sonya Atherton threw a PB of 7.30m in the U13s shot put, earning bronze.

Ryan Rong An Yap jumped further than he ever has before in the U20 long jump to take bronze (6.18m).

James Stockings moved up to 31st on the Hercules’ all-time rankings as he clocked 2:26:01 for 30th at the Copenhagen Marathon.
