Lions attacker Jed Wallace: I made a mistake against Barnsley – it was lovely to give something back at Cardiff City

Jed Wallace admits it was nice to make amends for his mistake against Barnsley by scoring a superb free-kick in the Boxing Day draw at Cardiff City.

The Millwall attacker smashed home a long-distance effort at Cardiff City Stadium to ensure the points were shared.

But in the previous fixture the Tykes had scored their winner after Wallace lost the ball in the final seconds of the Den contest.

“It felt nice [to score],” Wallace told Millwall Player. “It is definitely up there [as one of the best goals he has scored].

“I’m my own biggest critic. I was disappointed last weekend. I made a mistake. He [Gary Rowett, Lions manager] tried to defend it but I said: ‘It’s my own fault – I should know better’.

“It’s a nice feeling to give a little bit back today and contribute to the point. The centre-halves defended brilliantly and special mention to the lads coming on because it ain’t easy coming into games like that. Connor [Mahoney] was sprinting around for 20 minutes trying to get near someone.”

Next up tomorrow is Brentford at The Den, the final action of 2019.

“They are the third best team in the division behind Leeds and West Brom,” said Wallace. “They are a possession-based team, so the crowd have to be patient with us. We’ll have to sit in our shape at times and frustrate them. Going forward they have got some of the best players in the league.

“In our last 11 games we have shown play-off form. We can hurt any team, certainly on the transition.”
