Millwall defender makes permanent Den exit

Paul Rooney has joined Colchester United from Millwall on a permanent deal.

The defender has signed a deal with the U’s until the summer of 2019.

The 20-year-old failed to break into the Millwall team on a regular basis, making just one appearance for the first team in the 3-1 Football League Trophy victory at Luton Town in November 2016. He featured regularly for the club’s under-23 side.

Rooney initially signed for Millwall from Bohemians in his native Ireland. He went on to have a loan spell at Torquay last season, making six appearances in the National League and scoring once.

A Millwall club statement read: “The club would like to thank Paul for his services and wish him the best of luck for the future.”
