Charlton new boy will feature against Brighton in EFL Trophy

Ben Watson is set to make his first start for Charlton Athletic in Wednesday’s EFL Trophy tie against Brighton U21s on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old midfielder was signed on Friday by the Addicks and made his debut as a second-half sub in today’s 2-0 loss at Lincoln City.

And Charlton manager Lee Bowyer confirmed the former Crystal Palace, Wigan and Forest man will get more action against the Seagulls’ youngsters.

Bowyer said: “Ben will play in that. Today was the first minutes he’s had. That will be one for him.
“Some of the younger lads will come in. We’ll make a few changes.”

Bowyer was also asked about the absence of Albie Morgan for today’s League One fixture – and confirmed the decision was not due to injury.

The Addicks boss said: “He’s okay.”
