Warning issued over South London coronavirus rates

A warning has been given that it is “only a matter of time” before coronavirus cases in South London match higher rates seen for a few weeks in the west and east of the capital. A map of cases across the city put together by Merton council showed that boroughs south of the river currently have lower virus than those in north London. But Dagmar Zeuner, director of public health at Merton council, warned against complacency and said that testing data could also be unreliable.

Northern line extension set to be complete by autumn of 2021 – but Crossrail 2 likely to be delayed by at least a decade

Capacity on the Northern line could be boosted, but Crossrail 2 will not realistically be affordable before 2030, according to a new list of priorities produced by Transport for London (TfL). The report, Investment to get London and the UK Moving Again, sets out a revised list of major projects which TfL is hoping to complete during the next decade, in light of the long-term funding negotiations it is having with the government.

London hospitals to create “hubs” to deal with elective surgery if they are again swamped with Covid patients

A senior NHS chief has explained a new strategy London hospitals will use to keep patients safe, even if the capital sees a huge second surge of Covid-19. Professor Tim Orchard, chief executive of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, said hospitals across London were looking to create dedicated “hubs”, where non-Covid patients will receive routine, “elective” treatments and operations.
