Oslo Christmas tree gift to people of London to continue in 2020

It’s a powerful symbol of friendship across the North Sea and an enduring gift of thanks from one nation to another as they faced their darkest hours. Every Christmas since 1947 the City of Oslo has sent a Norwegian spruce tree to London as a gift in memory of that wartime support. It stands as London’s main Christmas tree each year in Trafalgar Square. And despite the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic the City of Oslo said the gift will continue as normal.

London mayor abandons plan to legally challenge Bexley incinerator scheme over costs – paving the pay for second waste burning site on Thames

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has made the “difficult decision” to abandon a legal challenge against controversial plans for a new waste-burning incinerator on the River Thames, with the cash-strapped office citing “substantial costs” of continuing with the case as the reason. Mr Khan’s office confirmed yesterday the judicial review, which had been due to start this month, would no longer go ahead.

Bexley councillors warned to consider their use of social media after online complaints

Bexley councillors have been warned to “consider carefully” their use of social media, after a report was tabled showing half of all complaints against elected members since May this year involved online activity. Bexley’s code of conduct committee heard that social media misuse was the source of four of the eight complaints logged against councillors since May.
