A serving cop has been charged with kidnapping Brixton marketing executive Sarah Everard, 33, from Poynders Road, on the South Circular in Clapham Park as she walked home from Clapham Junction, and then murdering her. PC Wayne Couzens, from Deal, Kent, was charged on Friday following an extensive investigation by homicide detectives. He will appear at Westminster magistrates court today, Saturday, for a first hearing.

Clapham vigil over women’s safety in tribute to Sarah Everard told by the Met it would breach Covid-19 restrictions

A Reclaim These Streets vigil due to take place on Clapham Common on Saturday, near where Sarah Everard was last seen as she made her way home to Brixton, has been told by the Met it would be against Covid-19 restrictions. Organisers claimed that they had been threatened with fines and prosecutions if the vigil went ahead.

Police chiefs face an inquiry into whether they properly investigated a claim of indecent exposure, in South London, involving the suspect in the alleged murder of Sarah Everard, just days before the marketing executive disappeared. A cop has been arrested on suspicion of the kidnap and murder of Everard. He has also been arrested on suspicion of an indecent exposure involving another woman, in an incident that will be investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

South African Covid-19 variant cases spark drive for tests in Roehampton and Battersea

People living in parts of Roehampton and Battersea are being encouraged to get a coronavirus test after “a small number of cases” of the South African variant were found there that cannot be traced back to international travel. Wandsworth council said all the cases are now self-isolating and robust tracing has taken place to track their contacts and ask them to self-isolate.

Lambeth residents are set to pay an extra £80 on average for council tax after a hike was approved on March 3. The council approved its budget, including a 4.99 per cent increase made up of a 1.99 per cent rise in council tax and three per cent for the adult social care precept.

The family of a 33-year-old woman who has not been seen since leaving a friend’s house in Clapham on Wednesday night at 9pm have appealed for help in finding her. Sarah Everard left the friend’s house in Leathwaite Road through a back gate onto the A205 South Circular and began walking to her home address in Brixton.
