140 successfully recover from coronavirus at Croydon University Hospital

Nearly 150 people are currently being treated for coronavirus in Croydon – but more than a fifth of that number have already died.

And while 60 people have lost their lives to the virus, 140 people have successfully recovered after being treated at Croydon University Hospital.

The complex has trebled its intensive care capacity, with more ventilators drafted in.

Normally, the hospital has two critical care wards, a general intensive care unit (ITU) with eight beds, and a high dependency unit (HDU) with seven beds with the capacity to ventilate up to 14 patients.

Chief nurse Elaine Clancy, who is leading the trust’s response to Codi-19, said: “More than 115 people have successfully recovered from coronavirus after receiving care from the trust.

“However, we are currently treating 280 patients for coronavirus, and sadly 60 local residents have lost their lives to the virus. This is heartbreaking for the families involved, as well as for our staff.

“Therefore, we need everyone to play their part in the fight against coronavirus by staying at home, following the guidance on social distancing and washing their hands.

“We have had hundreds of well-wishes, thanking our staff for their hard work during these challenging times. The many generous offers of food and supplies for our staff have also been phenomenal. This means so much for our staff right now and shows that we really are in this together to get through coronavirus.”

Many non-urgent appointments have been postponed, to free up staff time – with some taking place by phone or screen.

And to reduce the number of people visiting the hospital, no visitors are allowed to any of the adult inpatient wards.

  • PLEASE somebody do the math. Even the numbers within this short article dont add up. Are they currently treating 150 or 280? 60 dead is way more than a fifth of 130 patients. And if they are treating 280 then 14 ventilators is clearly why 60 might have died…. Ffs. Cant they count?? 😷

Doesn’t make sense they are quoting different figures which makes me feel more uneasy about it

I’d like to echo the comments in the previous post but I would also like more transparency in the figures given!
