Mural of Millwall legend Neil Harris back in Zampa Road after train company painted over it

Millwall fans have always believed Neil Harris could walk on water – but a resurrection might be a bit of a surprise.

A mural of the club’s record goalscorer, painted over by bridge owners Network Rail (NR) during lockdown, has been restored to its iconic position in Zampa Road, in the approach to The Den.

And this time it’s about five times the size.

The first mural went up on a (slightly drunken) night after Harris had scored the winner against Leeds in a 1-0 play-off semi-final victory over Leeds at The Den on May 9, 2009.

After almost 11 years of selfies spread all over the world, it disappeared – ironically on April 1 this year.

NR management said they did not know it was there.

But the Millwall Supporters Club sprang into action and raised enough to cover the costs of the paint so the original artists could restore the triumphant image of the 138-goal man.

Artists Wizywig said: “In 2009 we had had a few beers. We hatched a plan. This time we had already done the artwork for the Save The Den campaign last year, so the gang came back together again.”
